AI Act Compliance
Last updated: March 2026
Next-Gen Tutor is committed to compliance with the European Union Artificial Intelligence Act (Regulation 2024/1689). This page outlines how our platform classifies, uses, and governs artificial intelligence systems in accordance with the regulation.
1. Classification of Our AI Systems
Under the EU AI Act, AI systems are classified by risk level. Next-Gen Tutor's AI components fall under the limited risk category, which requires transparency obligations but does not constitute high-risk use (such as employment screening, credit scoring, or law enforcement).
Our platform uses AI exclusively for educational purposes — language practice and skill assessment. No decisions made by our AI systems have legal, financial, or significant life-impacting consequences for users.
2. AI Systems We Use
| System | Provider | Purpose | Risk Level |
|---|---|---|---|
| Conversational AI | OpenAI / AIML | Generates tutor responses during practice sessions | Limited |
| Text-to-Speech | ElevenLabs / AIML | Converts AI text responses into natural speech | Limited |
| AI Avatar | Simli | Renders a realistic animated face synchronised with speech | Limited |
| Feedback Engine | Internal (rule-based) | Analyses grammar, vocabulary, fluency, and engagement | Minimal |
3. Transparency Requirements
AI Interaction Disclosure
Users are informed that they are interacting with an AI system, not a human tutor. The avatars presented on the platform are AI-generated characters, and all conversational responses are produced by large language models (LLMs).
AI-Generated Content
The following content on our platform is generated or processed by AI:
- All tutor responses during practice sessions
- Voice audio (text-to-speech synthesis)
- Animated avatar visuals (lip-sync rendering)
- Performance scores and level suggestions
- Grammar corrections and feedback reports
Non-Binding Assessments
CEFR level suggestions and performance scores provided by our platform are indicative and for educational purposes only. They do not constitute official language certification and should not be used as formal proof of language proficiency for immigration, employment, or academic admission purposes.
4. Human Oversight
While our AI systems operate autonomously during sessions, human oversight is maintained through:
- System prompts designed and reviewed by our team to guide appropriate AI behaviour
- Content moderation — AI responses are constrained to educational English practice contexts
- Administrative monitoring — session data is reviewable by authorised staff
- User reporting — users can report inappropriate AI behaviour through our support system
5. Data Processing by AI Systems
During a practice session, the following data is processed by third-party AI providers:
- Text transcripts of the conversation (sent to LLM provider for response generation)
- Text responses (sent to TTS provider for voice synthesis)
- Audio streams (processed for lip-sync by avatar provider)
We do not send personal identification data (name, email, payment info) to AI providers. Sessions are identified by anonymous session IDs only. For full details on data handling, see our Privacy Policy.
6. Your Rights
Under the AI Act and related regulations, you have the right to:
- Be informed that you are interacting with an AI system (fulfilled by this page and in-app disclosures)
- Contest AI-generated assessments — if you believe your score or feedback is inaccurate, contact our support team
- Request human review — you may request that a human reviews any AI-generated assessment
- Access information about how AI decisions affecting you were made
- Opt out — you may stop using AI-powered features at any time by ending your session
